The reader who is unfamiliar with the word Naprapathy is probably likewise unacquainted with the science and profession of Naprapathy. It is hoped that the following explanation will serve to clarify the meaning of the word and give the reader enough information about the science and profession.
Naprapathy (Nah-prah' pathy) is derived from the Bohemian word naprevit which means to fix or relieve, and the Greek suffix pathos, which means suffering. The word Naprapathy is used to represent either the science or profession. Naprapathy (Nah-prah' pathy) is one who practices Naprapathy.
Naprapathy, as a science and system of manipulation (administered by the hands), has been practiced in many states of the Union and in many parts of the world for ninety one years. Its schools at the present time are located in Chicago Illinois,
Naprapathic Examining Committee
The men and women of the profession of Naprapathy are dedicated to serving humanity with their minds, hearts, and hands. They have been educated in the basic principles of science and in the art of using their hands to gently correct the tissue structures which have deviated from the norm because of injuries resulting from stress and strain.
The science of Naprapathy is predicated upon the thesis that the human organism possesses inherent capabilities of healing and restoring itself when its environment, internal and external, (structural and biochemical) is maintained within the normal limits of balance.
In the early stages of the development of the science, Naprapathy directed its attention almost exclusively to the correction of ligaments and other connective tissue structures which, upon examination, were found to deviate from the norm, due to the effects of stress and stain. The application of specialized manipulative techniques to injured tissues supporting the spinal column and other injured areas, which tended to interfere with the normal flow of nerve energy, brought surprising benefits to thousands of individuals who were treated by this method.
As research in the field of biochemistry advanced and brought to light the role that "balanced body chemistry" plays in facilitating the regenerative processes of the human organism, Naprapathy adapted these new concepts into the management of its cases, by making dietary changes when necessary and suggesting added supplements for the purpose of restoring the chemical and nutritive balance of the body.
The excellent response in the handling of so many chronic physical ailments and also many acute conditions has substantiated Naprapathy's basic premises and established for it an indisputable place in the field of the healing art.
| DEFINITION OF NAPRAPATHY Naprapathy is a system of manually applied movements both passive and active. designed to bring motion with consequent release of tension into abnormally tensed and rigid ligaments. muscles and articulations of the human body. these tissues and structures are normally movable, flexible and resilient. Naprapathy's philosophy is based upon a belief that all biological processes are aimed at survival and perpetuation of the species, and that these processes are responsible for the healing and rehabilitation of the human organism. Naprapathy contends that a favorable internal environment is essential for growth, development and maintenance of normal health. Naprapathy's procedures assist the body to maintain this favorable internal environment by releasing points of tension and by the use of rational dietary and hygienic measures. |
| Naprapathy, In fact, might fairly be considered the "connective tissue specialty" |
| Is Naprapathy only for people with aches and pains? Altough 85% of the people who visit our offices are looking for an alternative to "Living with the pain." Once they see and feel the benefits of treatment they realize it is an important part of their health care program and continue to receive Naprapathic treatment periodically even though the initial reason for visiting the office has been alleviated. | What to expect at your first visit In order to obtain a clear complete picture of your health status a complete case history will be taken and a thorough physical evaluation will be made with techniques unique to the Naprapathic profession. This history includes questions concerning your physical activities, diet and levels of stress. You may also be asked about any previous injuries and other treatment you have had. Feel free to ask your Naprapath any questions you have about your condition. After evaluation of your condition, if warranted you will receive a gentle hands-on manipulation of the spine, ligaments, muscles, and surrounding joints so as to restore a state of normal function adjunctive therapies may be used to increase circulation and relax muscles and ligaments. These may include ice packs, hot compresses, ultasound, diathermy, and electric muscle stimulation. | Why manipulation? The common denominator in any disease is stress. Under stressful conditions tissues such as musicles ligaments and tendons contract. As these tissues shrink normal function within the area decreases. Blood circulation and nerve pathways become constricted or irritated. Clinical students have suggested that with manipulation and stretchment by quaified practitioners such as Naprapaths. These constricted orirritated pathways will have the opportunity to return to a nomal state needed by the body to remain healthy. | Why manipulation? Naprapaths recogize that imbalances of the body chemistry are an important factor in instances of health disorders. It is for this reason that a change in diet or the use of natural food supplements may be recommended. We will only recommend a change once we have assesed a patient's need through a comprehensive case history with a dietary and physical evaluation. |
